The Only Resolution You Need
I spent a couple of hours reflecting back on 2017 and thinking about 2018 and I wanted to share this with you. It’s so important to always think back to not only what did work but also what didn’t work as you move forward with your life.
I started 2017 with the intention that it would be the absolute best year for me whether personally or professionally–and it was.
I remember last January very well. I made a list of what I DESIRED most in life. I got very clear on those desires. Super clear. And no desire was too outrageous or too unrealistic.
When you desire something–better health, a more committed relationship, more money, more travelling, more fun, going on a retreat, going shopping, more time freedom, your own business–whatever it is–it’s valid as long as it’s true for you and comes from a place of authenticity. And no-one can make your desire wrong.
And so my desire was to make 2017 the year of saying YES to myself on every level. And owning that I’m responsible for myself and for showing up for me. But more importantly, doing it all guilt-free.
No “mom guilt”
No “what will people think of me”
No spousal resentment.
No saying “Yes I want to, but..” —I got rid of that BUT really quickly and replaced it with the much more effective HOW?
My no’s turned into Yes to up-levelling my business.
Yes to investing in courses.
Yes to hiring team members.
Yes to travelling every couple of months.
Yes to shopping.
Yes to getting more help at home (hell, I hate housework and I’m no superwoman-never will be).
Yes to meeting new people.
Yes to more time with my husband.
Yes to new ventures.
Yes to new partners.
Yes to taking risks.
Yes to being lazy.
Yes to leaving that God-awful comfort zone BEHIND.
And so today, as we start the new year, I’m making another list of desires for 2018. And it pretty much looks EXACTLY like the list from last year. Because those desires are pieces of me that I ALWAYS need to have and always need to work on–instead of just one specific goal that starts on Jan.1 and then fizzles out by Jan. 15.
So take some time in the next couple of days and think about this: What are your desires? What in your life needs to be uplevelled? Where do you feel suffocated? What boring/dreadful/energy-sucking chore can you delegate? What have you denied yourself because you thought the “time isn’t right” or you weren’t properly supported, whether emotionally or financially?
What would absolutely light you up to do?
Do you want to spend your life in drudgery, routine and resentment? Or freedom, love and excitement, fulfilling your heart’s desires?
The truth is, you can think big (or at least think bigger). Or you can stay exactly where you are.
Instead of making the same resolution you’ve probably made for the past 10 years (lose 5kg; go to the gym, quit smoking; start reading; start a new hobby), Say YES to all of your desires.
Because if not now, when?
I’d love to hear from you! Comment on this post and let me know what your desires are and how you’re going to say YES to yourself this year!
To a fantastic 2018!!
