Small Changes Make a Large Impact
I e-design aspirational interiors for inspired living. Why? Our homes have a huge impact on our wellness and positive mindset. It is where we feel most in tune with our emotions, where negative emotions flow, negative energy follows. In order to make the most of our homes we need to ensure they work with our lifestyles. Small changes can have huge impacts.
These are some small changes that I believe could change your life at home.
It’s repeated time and time again and it really does make a difference. Whether it is a wardrobe clear out, or the cupboard that gets everything dumped in, it makes a huge difference to your mindset. Clear and organised living creates a clear and organised mind. It helps productivity in functioning and giving you a sense of calm knowing that there aren’t areas of the home you purposely have to avoid because they are full of clutter or you can’t seem to get round to sorting through things. Periodically make time to clear spaces and organise your home to truly benefit from all it can offer you.
Which flows onto the next point; know that feeling of rushing out the door but not being able to find your keys? Well what about a cute bowl or box by the door where you put them when you next walk through the door. See disorganised spaces create unnecessary stress, one of the reasons our home is a home is because it is our place. Similarly everything within the home should also have a place. When things are kept in the same place and we know where to find them, our minds focus on the task at hand rather than building up anxiety over all the things we have to find, organise or take with us before we head out the door.
Our mind subconsciously associates emotions with places. When you leave the house untidy or there is laundry to do or another chore awaiting your arrival, that uneasy feeling of returning to a list of items stays with you throughout the day. In order to return home feeling relaxed and ready to rest it is important to prioritise tasks and accept that not everything can be achieved all of the time. Therefore if there is a particular chore you know leaving will stay in your thoughts, make sure you are able to do it before you leave home.
Take time to think
It is easy to see but not really see things, especially when they have been the same for some time. It is important to reassess how we feel about our living space; does the layout work for us, are there areas that should work better, how close a connection do you feel to your sanctuary? Routine and lives change over time, homes however may not. It is essential to change your home décor and layout over time to accommodate changing lifestyles. This works especially well when you are able to take inspiration and redesign your own living space rather than replicate a wonderful space you have seen elsewhere. Over time the task can seem huge as changes you wish to see build up and you don’t get to address the issues you have with your home.
Use your possessions
Enjoying life at home is all about being able to be free to live as you please. Oftentimes however, this does not happen. There will be special crockery for guests, candles that lit for visitors, food eaten on special occasions. Visitors and friends pass through the home, they are fleeting moments to enjoy. Living in your home should be a joyful experience, have crockery you like to use, candles that help you relax and unwind and food that you enjoy around the dining table with people you live with. These moments bring us emotionally closer to our homes and the people around us.
Reading back over the above, it may seem that these small changes are insignificant or obvious; the truth is they are often forgotten. When things are done hastily or half-heartedly, our minds associate with achieving the task and moving on. When things are done with joy and pride and genuine reasoning they often leave a much more profound impact. When redesigning living spaces, the care and attention that goes into paint choices, colour schemes and comfort can be felt way beyond the aesthetics. The changes mentioned above help to recreate these feelings without requiring the need for major home renovations.
