On the Go Style Tips
It’s the back to school blitz! Packing lunches, buying school supplies, registering for after school activities, buying back to school clothes. The list goes on and on and on…
For the fabulous moms that I have the pleasure of styling, I see how busy this time of year is for them. It can feel overwhelming getting the kiddos situated and ready for the start of a new school year, and that often means your needs get put on the back burner.
And when your needs get put on the back burner, that can lead to a wardrobe rut complete with activewear. By the end of the day you are not only exhausted from the day’s activities but you also feel frumpy. That’s never a good feeling!
As a Style Coach my job is to streamline my client’s wardrobe and make getting dressed daily a non-issue. By not having to worry about what to wear they can be more fully present in their day-to-day…all while feeling effortless chic and comfortable!
What’s the secret??
It all starts with having the right pieces in your wardrobe. But it doesn’t stop there! You have to then know what to do with those items. And this is where my fool-proof outfit formulas come into play. These outfit combinations are easy to emulate based on your body type and personal style, and are sure to be practical for your stage of life without sacrificing style.
Outfit Formula 1: Casual Dress + Sandal or Sneaker
A super easy outfit idea for a busy mom is a ‘one and done’ casual dress. It’s a no brainer item that can make you feel pulled together without much effort. Look for materials that move with you like jersey and cotton blends, and make sure the length is long enough for bending (aka kid friendly). As we move into cooler weather think about ways to style your dress to accommodate the temperature. A few favorites are denim jackets, bomber jackets, and leather motorcycle jackets.
Outfit Formula 2: Casual Top + Fun Pant + Flats
It’s time to break free from your leggings and activewear and instead try out a casual but chic pant style like a jogger, cargo, or paper bag waist chino. Complete the look with a comfy, casual top like a well-draped tee or tailored pull over sweater. If you need a little more oomph to your outfit accessorize with a patterned shoe or a pendant necklace.
Outfit Formula 3: Casual Button Down + Shorts or Jeans + Flats
Sometimes a tee just feels a bit bland, and so a button down is in order. Select a pattern that suits your style or a design detail that elevates the shirt and keeps you feeling feminine. Polish it off with fun elements like a colorful shoe or an on trend pair of jeans (kick flare and distressed hemlines are everything right now). Don’t forget a stylish backpack or cross body to keep you hands-free and ready to roll!
Now it’s time to implement and make these outfits a reality for you! I encourage you to spend a little bit of time in your closet to first make sure you have these basic pieces, and from there put it all together. Once you’ve styled up some ‘go to’ looks, snap pictures of them on your phone to make getting dressed daily a breeze!
